I have embraced the journey that stems from an empty nest using creativity. There is nothing more daunting nor scary than the last child taking flight. While my role as mother has changed, I have morphed into an artist who has tapped into her creativity and began a new paassion.
Many, many (too many) years ago my first works were done in oils which made it difficult to be creative. I was a mom raising four children and time was an issue, but add in children wanting to be creative themselves and a long dry time; being creative on canvas took a backseat.
I slowly found my way to acrylic paint as a new medium to work with. The ability to work on something and have it dry before the wee ones could get near it was definitely a plus. Learning the new medium and adjusting to the brighter color palate took some practice.
My daughter suggested I check out a couple of You Tube videos about Gouache a few years back. She said she thought it was a medium I might enjoy. At first I resisted as I know that watercolor is a medium that takes lots of practice to master. You can overwork the colors and make things muddy, you need to learn to leave white spaces for highlights and over use of water not only degrades the medium but can degrade the paper. Too much effort for me!
I kept watching videos and even tried to work with them a bit. One day I went down a rabbit hole and was introduced to Gouache. Another version of watercolor but closer in presentation to acrylic paint and inks than regular watercolor. A nice medium that is opaque and not translucent, allows for layering and great detaili. I ordered my first set to see how they worked for me and the rest they say is history!
Take time to check out my gallery of works in acrylic, acrylic inks and gouache. Each of my paintings opened new doors in the medium in which I am working. Gouache I think, may be my favorite medium to date.
Visit my calendar of upcoming shows and come visit me to see me in person. Tell me about your favorites or what you would like me to paint next. I will see you there!
I would love to meet you! Check out the schedule and come visit my tent anytime. Whether you are interested in checking out my work in person or you have a request for something you would like me to paint, I look forward to meeting you!
Stay tuned in when and where my shows are next and find out about new paintings as soon as I make them public (before shows!!!)
