Welcome to Sindi's Empty Nest
I have embraced the journey that stems from an empty nest using creativity. There is nothing more daunting nor scary than the last child taking flight! While my role as mother has changed, I have morphed into an artists who has tapped into her creativity and begun a new passion!
Many, many (way too many) years ago my first works were done in oils which made it very difficult to find the time nor the storage space to get creative with children lurking to be creative themselves. I slowly found my way to acrylics which generated brighter works, dried faster and satisfied my needs in being creative.
Over the last several years I have found a love in using acrylic inks. The difference between acrylic ink and acrylic paint is big! Both dry quickly and allow you the versatility of not requiring a special storage space to keep your work safe. Inks are definitely a bit harder to use; while very liquid they pose their own obstacles to overcome as they are dry very quickly. There are mediums you can use to help extend the fluidity of the inks which makes working with them very rewarding. What I love about acrylic ink is that you can build color because they are transparent; each layer of color creating depth. I found this aspect of using acrylic inks quite fascinating and rewarding.
Within the past several years I have dabbled in watercolor and gouache. Both are water based and require a sealer to maintain the work; however, watercolors are transparent while gouache is opaque. Again, while very similar mediums they both behave quite differently. You can build layers a bit, but must be very careful as the paper will degrade and the colors become dirty. Learning the little tips and tricks to get the effects you desire in both of these mediums is like solving a puzzle - such fun!
I hope that you will find beauty in my work and recognize the passion with which I paint. Every dabble at color, every stroke of the brush are testaments to the knowledge that an empty nest opens the doors to your dreams!
